Using the principle of induction, an electromagnetic field is generated within the reader head (linear encoder), interacting with ball bearings inside the scale. During axial movement along the scale, variations in the induced field are detected, processed and converted to an industry standard differential quadrature by a Digital Signal Processor (DSP).
